Preparing Your Home and Family for Fall

Now that fall is officially here, it’s time to declutter your home by reorganizing it. During the summer, your kids are out of school and access more of their belongings than they do while they’re in class. Now that they’ve gone back for the 2017-2018 school year, you can put many of their items away until next summer. Doing so frees up space for other things that you need during the colder seasons of the year.

Here are some of the ways you can prepare your home and family for fall:

  • Use baskets and colored bins to keep like items together. Tie a colorful ribbon on the handle of the basket to distinguish it from another. You can easily designate a color for the different items in your home or even the rooms in your home. For example, everything that needs to be housed in the kitchen can be in a blue bin or basket with a blue ribbon on it.
  • Create an area for fall accessories. Heavier clothing gets worn more often in the fall and winter. That’s why it needs a dedicated spot in the home. Your kids can hang their jackets, coats, hats, gloves, and scarves on hooks or place them in bins. They can also keep their BinderBag Backpacks and Messenger bags there so they’ll always be ready for school.

Prepare your home and family for fall by storing items that are heavily used during the warmer weather months of the year. Pull out clothing that is meant for fall and winter and make any necessary repairs to it that needs to be done. Put away sports equipment, bathing suits and trunks, and pool toys. Replace it with boots, hockey gear, and ski equipment so you’re ready for the things that you know your family will do once the weather changes and gets colder.
